The effect of ink smoothness on print break shared by digital printer supplier.

1: filtration time: the GF/B used is glass fiber filter film (precision 1 micron, diameter 47 mm filter paper), SUS is the stainless steel filter (precision about 15 microns) and area in the simulated nozzle, so the filtration time is longer.

2: forming speed of bending surface: the smaller the value, the better the performance.

3: particle size: for coating ink, this case is dye-based ink, so it does not need to be determined.

4: contact Angle: refers to the Angle formed by ink droplets on the surface of nozzle board, which is less than 90 degrees hydrophilic.

5: water content: according to the testing indexes of solvent-based and oily ink, this case is water-based ink, so it does not need to be determined.

A. surface tension and contact Angle. Many ink factories in China do not test these two indexes, so they are taken out for analysis. In this case the smaller the contact Angle the smaller the surface tension. At the same time, the smaller the contact Angle, the shorter the filtration time, which is conducive to the timely flow of ink into the nozzle. Because the surface tension of active and disperse ink is higher than that of ordinary oily and solvent-based ink, so its wetting time to the nozzle is much greater than the latter, for the air is occupied in the excitation chamber caused by broken ink, to let the ink quickly wetting the nozzle, this index is very important.

B. filtration time of two kinds of filtration membrane. This is a test for characterizing rheological parameters. There is no standard to be found. In this case, the ink is filtered by two different filtration membranes, and the smoothness of the ink is shown. Because the area, material and precision of the filter used are not the same, the filtration speed of the two is not the same, so only the same kind of filter core test results for horizontal comparison.

GF/B filter has an accuracy of 1 micron and can intercept some soft and hard impurities in the ink. This method can be used to observe the smoothness of ink, whether old or new.

The purpose of using SUS membrane is to simulate the actual use of nozzle. It is only a reference value, but it is not very effective for ink with flocculation after a period of time. Generally, the accuracy of intercepting flocculates should be at least 2 microns, and the accuracy of GF/B filter membrane is enough to intercept flocculates, while the accuracy of SUS filter membrane is about 15 microns, which cannot effectively intercept flocculates in ink.

It should be noted that there are two parts in the nozzle where the maximum pressure loss occurs, one is the throttle channel and the other is the filter screen. Usually there are a lot of filter material, some with stainless steel mesh, some with polyester mesh. In the same condition of filtration precision stainless steel mesh smoothness will be better than polyester mesh.

As can be seen in table 5, the filtration time measured by using low-precision SUS filter membrane to filter magenta was about the same as that required by filtering light color. However, when using high-precision GF/B filter membrane to filter magenta, the filtration time was significantly longer, which indicated that the smoothness of the ink was still a problem. For cyan, which lasts longer, it is the least fluid.

C. Formation rate of bending surface. This index is related to the surface tension. When the surface tension is high, the formation time is short and vice versa. And the surface tension size or comprehensive balance, too low will be bending liquid surface formation time is too long, not conducive to high-speed and stable printing, but too high, on the nozzle cavity wet, not conducive to the timely discharge of bubbles. At the same time for ink fluency is not good.
